| Founded in 1979 by Dr. Janelle Goetcheus, CRHS has provided comprehensive health care for the medically underserved residents of Washington, DC for over 30 years. We serve as a medical home for nearly 5,000 patients each year, as we address physical, social, and economic barriers to health and well-being. We have medical providers, social services staff, and mental health counselors, who work collaboratively to meet the needs of our patients.
CRHS has continued to expand and adapt our response to the needs of our patients throughout our history:
-
In 2003, CRHS received its first federal Community Health Center grant, which allowed us to expand to evening and weekend hours and hire additional staff, thus doubling our capacity to provide medical care and social services. We also added mental health counseling as a key component of care.
-
In 2010, CRHS merged with Unity Health Care, Inc, an organization that shares a common origin with CRHS and now encompasses a network of community health centers and clinics that extends throughout Washington, DC. CRHS continues its dedicated care to DC’s underserved residents under the umbrella of Unity Health Care.
